It was about Superman and I was amazed at how quickly time passed as I read. I was hooked, the visual media evolving art and words intrigued me as a young man and I have never stopped since. From comics, I graduated to novels and one of the first books I read was Old Yeller by Fred Gipson. The devotion between boy and dog came through the pages. It was a simple story and yet a writing masterpiece in my young mind.

As I read more books like Robinson Crusoe a tale of an English sailor marooned on a desert island for nearly three decades by Daniel Defoe, A Tale of Two Cities an intricate interweaving of epic drama with personal tragedy by Charles Dickens, I realized that these and other authors had touched me with their gift and made my life better. So many books and novels have shaped the way I think and ignited my passion for life.

I realized I wanted to write and like everything I want to do I procrastinated thinking I could never do it right. Then I tried short stories and saw some talent but still was not happy with the outcome. Then one day I thought about why I was putting myself through this torture and came to the conclusion that I have something to say and stories in my heart that I wanted to share.

<The books were inside my imagination and somehow I had to write them down for better or worse. I kept trying and learning. Every effort to write was a revelation and learning experience and slowly I got better. I was always afraid of what people would think of my work but then I realized that I knew what was good writing by the examples of the good books I had read so just please myself and it would be enough.

In the play Hamlet writing by Shakespeare, Polonius said: “This above all: to thine own self be true, And it must follow, as the night the day, Thou canst not then be false to any man. Farewell, my blessing season this in thee!” It spoke to me and said to me that I must be true to my calling and please myself first then I can please others and help them also. This was the reason I wrote and continue as long as there is a story in my heart and imagination I will write.

One of the early things I read as a child was a comic book.
